Pelion in Every Season: Why People Return Again and Again

By Vilchik Group · July 2026 · 5-min read

Most people think of Pelion as a summer destination — sea, beaches, sunshine. But the real secret of this mountain is that it has four faces, and each one is beautiful in its own way. Whoever comes once quickly discovers it's worth returning in a completely different season, to watch the same place turn into something new.

Want to stay in the area too? The Stone House in Volos — a boutique stay in the heart of the city, minutes from the sea and Mt. Pelion. For details & booking ←

Spring — the mountain in bloom

Between March and May, Pelion wakes up. The slopes fill with blossom, the springs run at full force, and the mountain air is clear and sweet. This is the season of the ancient walking trails between the villages, when the temperatures are pleasant and the scenery is greener than ever. The sea is still cool for swimming, but for hiking — there's no lovelier season than this.

  • Perfect for: hikers, lovers of nature and blossom, long and pleasant days.

Summer — turquoise in every direction

From June to September, Pelion is at the height of its glory: turquoise water, Mediterranean sun and warm evenings on the promenade. This is the season of hidden beaches, of fish dinners by the sea and of long sunsets. And here too Pelion surprises you — while the average Greek island is packed, the green bays of Pelion still have room to breathe.

  • Perfect for: beaches, swimming, family holidays and summer evenings.

Autumn — gold and quiet

October and November are perhaps the best-kept secret of all. The chestnut and plane forests turn to gold and copper, the sea is still warm enough for a dip, and the villages return to their own rhythm after the summer. This is harvest season — chestnuts, apples, olives and pomegranates — and the tavernas fill with the aromas of home cooking. Quiet, colourful and romantic.

  • Perfect for: couples, photographers, local food and a relaxed atmosphere.

Winter — snow above the sea

And here comes the big surprise: Pelion has a ski resort. Snow falls on the mountain peaks, while down below, along the coastline, the sea keeps shimmering blue. You can sip coffee by a crackling fire in a snow-covered stone village, and within half an hour be back on the Volos promenade. The villages take on a warm, intimate mood, and both prices and quiet reach their peak.

  • Perfect for: quiet winter getaways, a crackling fire, and a rare mix of snow and sea.

So when is the best time?

The truth? In every season. Pelion doesn't give you one reason to come — it gives you four. And that's exactly why a home in the area is such a good investment: a place you can enjoy — and rent out — all year round, not just in the summer months. Four seasons, four reasons to return, and rental potential that doesn't stop in September.
